When they turned on the N2 they spotted a suspicious looking silver Nissan Navara driving in front of them. Members could see that it was carrying a load, and could not drive very fast. They pulled the vehicle over and searched it and found 14 432 pieces of abalone with an estimated street value of R2 million.
The driver a 33-year-old man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Caledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 2016-05-02 facing illegal possession of abalone charges. The vehicle was confiscated.
